Seven Days

2017, color, Heibei, China

I have never been to the north of China before. The North is strange and mysterious to me. For me who grew up in the South, the North just like a poem, a novel, a painting, a film and television work, and many stories written by predecessors made me yearn for this land. Unlike modern cities where I live, most of the people I see here are old people and children. Most of them are flustered to resist the reality which had been exposed to outsiders. I looked at them, and there was a strange feeling in my heart or sadness. In fact, people are trapped here. The barren land does not leave a choice, what is another life, they know nothing about it.

People in Hebei can find a sense of satisfaction, which has made the pace of social development become soothing. As a result, people are not so much anxiety, and there is not so much rushing heart in the city. The impression that the people of Hebei originally gave people was that they were quite normal and plain. For them, who is the provincial party secretary? The times are changing, but everyone will be the same. It is more important to live safely.

This kind of happy attitude has allowed Hebei to maintain a slow frequency that does not catch up with cattle and horses. When you open Hebei Station, the special old school of the program, there is no variety show of the Oriental Satellite TV, it seems that it is still at the end of the planned economy, even the late-night theater is the battle of Changsha.

Two hundred kilometers from Hebei to the north is the magnificent Beijing. The two hundred kilometers road just like a museum of human development history. It feels like the process of extending from the yellow land to the asphalt road.
